I am the grit in the gears, the missing bolt, I am the poker of sticks into spokes. I like to know how things work, but sometimes when I take them apart and rebuild them, I have a few pieces left over. I am a man, so I tend to leave reading the instructions until after it goes wrong. And like all men I have a comprehensive mental map of the world and never need to ask directions. I never get lost, only sometimes I'm late, or end up in the wrong place entirely. It's what we do.

ReplyDeleteI'll eventually tire of them, but I love the way in which serious looking, outwardly prudish victorians loved to prchase pictures full of naked women, and somehow managed a full mental disconnect from the fact that victorian women were buttoned up from toes to neck.
well, they liked a bit of decolletage at a ball, but...
Anyway, here they were producing what was the equivalent of internet porn and declaring it perfectly socially acceptable, because it was "Art".
Still, as a pubescent teenager, art galleries and the national geographic were my biggest sources of information as to what girls were hiding under their clothes.
