Holiday Project..

Old cylinder head off, (worn valve-seats and guides), new one awaits.

Gas-flowed, ported, a bit more torque low-down, more flexible mid-range.
To some of my readers, I know this is all meaningless gobbledegook, but to others, it's rich, greasy poetry. Marvel if you will, at the retro concept of crude engineering, cast iron, holes not drilled or milled by CNC, and, even wilder, only two valves per cylinder!

Argleblart! The swine! The recon head had some helicoiled inserts. Now I've nothing against helicoils, if they're done right they're tougher than the original thread, but dammit, one exhaust stud was out of alignment.  Much filing ensued.

    1. Head off, now back on, engine running. I'm fairly good with the spanners. Maybe I'll re-fit the overdrive on the arse-end of the gearbox on christmas day!

    1. Well, off another engine, of course.
Y'see, I could send mine off, to be re-machined, and have shiny new valves and so on. Or I can buy a ready done one, on an exchange basis. Mine goes back in the box this one arrived in, and I call the couriers to take it back to Turner, for them to refurb and send out again.

Oh. What? I'll add a pic, shall I?

You've been absent from the internet. Have you got a note?

  5. Those darn helicoils - I always have trouble with those damn things, particularly after I've just washed my hair!

Amongst all the grease, and the odd gentle *cough* curse word, do have a very Merry Christmas, soubriquet...and may 2013 fulfill all your dreams, hopes and wishes. :)

    1. Helicoils in your hair? You could get rich selling them.

  6. I too have a love-hate relationship with helicoils. Sometimes there just isn't any other good option.

    Hiya, Soub!
